Monster Mashup 2018

Monster Mashup 2018

Welcome to my project! Monster Mashup is a collaborative project between local elementary aged children and artists.

The goal is to get children invested and interested in many diverse art mediums and to provide an insight into different perspectives and processes.

I have a lovely volunteer group of kindergartners that have agreed to design their own Monsters and draw us pictures of their creations. Those pictures will be handed off to an extremely talented group of local artists who will re-interpret them into “grown-up” pieces of art. I have a great group of volunteer artists that have been chomping at the bit to feast their eyes on our mini artists work.  I am looking forward to working with all involved and really excited to share with you all the ins and outs of our creative processes and allowing you to actually watch as these works develop over the next few months.  When all the works are done, we will be having a huge Reveal Night, which will be open to the public, where you can meet the artists, see the finished products, and maybe even meet the wonderful children that helped us out with their fabulous imaginations.

Please stay tuned to the website to watch the fun, keep up with announcements, and eventually join us for the big night. I’m hoping to even have a booklet for purchase that will be a great memento to keep outlining the whole project from beginning to end. Bookmark my site so you don’t miss out on anything!

Welcome Students!

Project Updates

Here is where you can find out all kinds of cool information on your Monsters. I will be updating this site with photos of the artists that are working on your creature and maybe even videos of the Monster Art being made. I want to personally thank you and thank your parents and teacher for being involved in our project.  We are honored to babysit your Monsters and help them to grow up into new pieces of art.

The artists are so excited and are just waiting to see what kind of super ideas you’ve come up with. I hope you will check back with my site to learn all about how art is made.

Monster Mashup 2019

Monster Mashup 2019

The Monster Mashup Project 2019 on February 24, 2019

In 2016, Virginia artist, Tammy D. Hedge, had an idea. She wanted to
start a community driven project that would encompass local artists and
local school children. The Monster Mashup Project would utilize children
from a local Elementary School and their endless creativity to design and
draw monsters. Those monsters would then be distributed to local artists,
who would recreate them into “adult” pieces of art. Along the way the
children would learn about individual creative process and how others see
the world. She hoped to encourage the children to see that different doesn’t
mean wrong, it just means a different point of view.

On February 24, 2019, the 4th edition of The Monster Mashup Project
will be presented to the public. The show will be held at Art First Gallery in
Fredericksburg, VA. You may view the show from 11 am to 5pm. At 3pm
there will be a reception for all the children and artists that participated in
this year’s project. The children’s original monsters will be shown, side by
side, with the adult recreations.

This reception is also open to the public. It is a unique opportunity to meet all the artists, large and small that have been involved in this one of a kind show. Books about the project will be available to order at the event. Each book costs $25 + $2 shipping cost.

There is no cost to attend this event.

Show Love for the Monster Mashup

The Monster Mashup is for everyone.

We want your school to be featured!

The Monster Mashup is a imaginative project between your local elementary aged children and artists from around the world.

This is a collaborative art masterpiece that combines the artistic minds of kids and adults. Kids draw their unique monsters and our artists interpret them in their own design. This project brings all generations of art to unify as one. Our mission is expression. Allow each child to express their own creativity, no matter what their inspiration or interest.

How does it work?

We have a number of kindergartners and grade school children agree to design their own Monsters and draw us pictures of their creations from imagination. Those pictures are handed off to an extremely talented group of artists who interpret them into their Monsters. The artists re-imagine the drawings into “grown up” pieces of art in their respective mediums.

We are now venturing out with this project worldwide. The new online version will have the capability to reach classrooms, hospitals, and children that just need a monster friend to help them through the tough spells.
